Officials back to Government House June 2

BANGKOK, May 30 (TNA) - Officials will come back to work at their offices in the Government House's compound on June 2, as a big clean-up at the government seat will be launched on May 31. The officials on Friday came to inspect their offices located at many buildings inside the Government House, where months-long seizure by demonstrators of the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) ended recently in the wake of a coup pursued by the army-led National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) on May 22. Part of the officials were bringing their documents, working equipment and personal belongings back into their offices. A working team of former national police chief Police General Adul Saengsingkaew, who is now a deputy chief of the NCPO, also came to look into the readiness of his new office. But the Santi Maitree Building inside the government seat, the main gathering venue of PDRC demonstrators, remained closed, despite a recent cleaning by workers of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA). An overall big clean-up of the Government House was set on May 31, in preparation for its reopening for normal operations next Monday. Meanwhile, about 10 injured soldiers filed lawsuits against anti-coup protesters who assaulted them and police officers while maintaining law and order at Bangkok’s Victory Monument earlier this week. Acting Deputy Metropolitan Police Chief Police Major General Amnuay Nimmano, who is responsible for investigation and traffic affairs, said that people gathering by citing the Constitution is not possible now that the Charter has been abolished following the May 22 military coup under the martial law, with violators to be arrested and tried before the Martial Court. According to the acting deputy metropolitan police chief, investigators were questioning all the injured, before seeking a permission from the Martial Court to arrest the attackers. (TNA)
