OIC Secretary-General To Travel To Malaysia, Philippines

SINGAPORE, April 13 (Bernama) -- Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Secretary-General, Iyad Ameen Madani is due to travel to Malaysia Monday, on his first official visit to the important OIC member state. In a statement, OIC said the secretary-general was scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with Malaysia's Prime Minister Najib Razak, Foreign Minister Anifah Aman and other ministers and high officials. The discussions will focus on regional and international issues of mutual concern, as well as cooperation on economic, education and science and technology programmes. From Malaysia, Iyad Ameen will head to the Philippines where he will discuss with officials, regional issues, particularly the ongoing peace process in southern Philippines. OIC has been following closely the situation of Muslims in the Philippines for many years and actively supports initiatives that will bring peace to the south. Accompanying the secretary-general on this trip is Ambassador Syed Kassem Elmasry, his Special Envoy for Peace in Southern Philippines; Ambassador Ali Abolhassani, Director in Political Affairs Department; Dr Hassan Abedin, In-Charge of Muslim Minorities Department; Maha Akeel, Director of Information Department; and, other officials. -- BERNAMA
