OIC Secretary-General To Visit Malaysia From Tuesday

KUALA LUMPUR, April 14 (Bernama) -- Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Tan Sri Iyad Ameen Madani will pay an official visit to Malaysia starting Tuesday. The Foreign Ministry in a statement said it would be his first visit to Malaysia since assuming the post in January 2014. During his three-day visit, he is scheduled to pay courtesy calls on Prime Minister Najib Razak, Foreign Minister Anifah Aman and other ministers. "The visit demonstrates Malaysia's continued commitment to playing an active role in OIC, and its dedication in addressing issues and challenges faced by the Muslim ummah," the ministry said. According to the statement, besides courtesy calls, the OIC secretary-general is also scheduled to deliver a talk at the International Islamic University Malaysia and visit Chemical Company of Malaysia (CCM) Pharmaceuticals Sdn Bhd in Bangi to witness the production of halal pharmaceutical products. Since its inception on Sept 25, 1969, the OIC strives to strengthen Islamic solidarity among it member states, while advocating the importance of tolerance, peace and harmony. The OIC works to safeguard the interest and well-being of all Muslims in the world. It also aims to strengthen cooperation in the political, economic, social, cultural and scientific fields. --BERNAMA
