One injured in Thai prison riot

BANGKOK, May 12 (TNA) – One warder has been injured after a riot broke out in Thung Song prison in Thailand’s Nakhon Si Thammarat province Sunday, said Police Major General Ranarong Saikaew, Commander of Nakhon Si Thammarat Provincial Police. He said the situation has successfully been brought under control after 100 police officials were sent to regain control of the prison. According to the commander of the Nakhon Si Thammarat Provincial Police, five inmates tried to climb over the prison’s fence in an attempt to escape from the prison. They, however, were stopped by warders outside the prison, who opened fires at them to keep them inside the prison compound. He said one of the prison warders was held hostage before the police regained control of the prison. The warder was stabbed on his left shoulder by the one of the inmates after trying to escape.
