Operations at Thailand’s Chiang Mai Airport continue after oil leak

BANGKOK, November 9 (TNA) - Operations at Thailand’s Chiang Mai Airport continued normally Sunday after oil leaked from pipeline, operated by PTT Public Co., Ltd., Saturday night. The airport director Group Captain Wisut Chantana said the incident occurred when the oil pipeline leaked at number 19 bay for plane parking, causing a large amount of aviation oil to flow into sewerage within the airport compound while the oil also flowed into the nearby canal in a residential area. Officials later placed sandbags to prevent oil from flowing into the canal and also informed PTT Plc. officials to repair the ruptured pipeline immediately. A fire later erupted at the canal due to oil leakage but the blaze could be contained in about 15 minutes. The airport director said the airport was not damaged while commercial planes could land or depart normally because the bay where the oil leakage occurred is used for parking of small aircraft. He said PTT Plc. would compensate for any public or private property, damaged in the incident. The cause of the oil leakage was still under investigation. (TNA)
