Opposition urged to enclose copy of impeachment motion against Thai PM

BANGKOK, November 18 (TNA) - The Thai government whip committee has demanded that the opposition file a copy of its impeachment motion against Prime Minister and Defence Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and Interior Minister Charupong Ruangsuwan to complete the motion, as required by Section 271 of the Constitution. Government chief whip Udomdet Ratanasathian told a press conference at the Parliament on Monday if the opposition insisted on not filing the copy, House Speaker Somsak Kiatsuranont would have the authority to decide whether to put the no-confidence debate, together with the impeachment move, against both figures on the House’s agenda or not. Udomdet said if the opposition agreed to abide by the law, the debate could happen next week, noting that the opposition has seven days, until November 22, to file the additional document. The government chief whip pointed out that the opposition camp had, in the past, always filed such copies along with their no-confidence motions. (TNA)
