Ottoman era mosque, military barracks in Benghazi await restoration

BENGHAZI (A.A) - March 5, 2012 - An Ottoman era mosque and a military barracks in Benghazi shattered during Libya's civil unrest need urgent attention for restoration. Rashid Pasha Mosque, which was built in 1885, and the military barracks along with some other Ottoman era structures have been damaged during Libya's unrest which ousted the country's 42-year-old ruler.     Rashid Pasha Mosque, which is also known as "the Osman mosque" is located on a street near Benghazi downtown Tahrir Square that used to house numerous Ottoman merchants doing business in the country.  The Ottoman military barracks is one of the biggest edifices in Benghazi, and it is heavily damaged during the Libyan revolution.
