Over 136kg Narcotics Seized In Karaj

Karaj, Feb 24, IRNA – Police Commander of Albors province said on Saturday that some 136 kilograms of opium was confiscated by police in Karaj. Ahmad Ali Goudarzi said that police carried out the operation to seize the opium upon a tip-off about activities of a group distributing drugs. The operation led to discovery of drugs within a package of tomatoes on a vehicle coming from one of the Iranian central provinces to Karaj. Police arrested four people in the process of the operation along with 136 kilograms opium. Iran lies on a major drug route between Afghanistan and the West. With a 900-km (560-mile) common border with Afghanistan, Iran has been used as the main route for smuggling Afghan narcotics to drug cartels in Europe and beyond./end
