Over 36 kg of caviar extracted in Kia Shahr Port of Astaneh

Rasht, Gilan Prov, Nov 8, IRNA – Head of the Fishery Department of Astaneh Ashrafiyeh said over 36 kg of caviar has been extracted in coastal areas of Kia Shahr Port of the city since the start of the fishing season. Hamid Reza Soleymani told IRNA on Saturday that special sturgeon catch in the two authorized fishing fields started from the month of Mehr (September/October) in Kia Shahr port and so far eight sturgeons have been caught by the fishermen. He put the value of the extracted caviar at about 1.440 billion rials and noted that the meat of the fish amounted to 159 kg with a total value of about 79.5 million rials. Underlining full control of the fishery over special fishing of sturgeons, Soleymani said the plan was implemented with an aim of reviving marine resources and reproduction of baby sturgeons for release into the sea. He pointed to preservation and reproduction of marine resources as one of the important policies of the fishery and said the caviar extracted in Kia Shahr has been sent to centers for surgeon reproduction in the province. Currently 993 fishermen are active in 11 fishing cooperatives in Kia Shahr port city.
