Over 800 Thai fishing crewmen back home from Indonesia

BANGKOK, June 10 (TNA) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports that it has brought over 800 Thai fishing crewmembers back home from Indonesian islands, while 450 others are waiting for their returns. Foreign Ministry Spokesman Sek Wannamethee, who is also Director-General of the ministry's Department of Information, told journalists on Wednesday that 813 Thai fishing boat workers have already returned home from October 1, 2014 to June 9, 2015, with the latest group of five arriving in Thailand, from Indonesia's Ambon Island, on Tuesday evening. The spokesman said about 450 other fishing workers will depart from Indonesia's Ambon and Benjina Islands in the near future, as the Thai Embassy in Jakarta has already issued certificates of identity for about 300 of them. According to the spokesman, the Thai Embassy to Indonesia is also arranging for the return of a group of Thai fishing workers from Pontianak City in Indonesia's West Kalimantan Province, but the case is different from assistance for other Thai fishing crewmembers stranded in Indonesia because those in the latter were arrested for illegal fishing and Indonesia's legal procedures must be followed carefully and completely before their return to Thailand.
