Pak Moon Dam stops discharging water

UBON RATCHATHANI, October 23, (TNA) - With drought already affecting farmers and water receding sharply at the Pak Moon Dam in the northeastern province of Ubon Ratchathani bordering Laos, concerned authorities have decided to close sluice gates at the dam to store water for consumption during the summer season next year. Sluice gates of the dam have been opened since July 15, following a decision of Pak Moon Dam Water Management Committee, aimed at preventing floods in the province and nearby areas during the current rainy season. However, Pongdit Potchana, deputy governor of Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, said the Committee has decided to close the dam’s sluice gates since early Monday in a bid to store water for use during dry season next year. Mr. Pongdit said the closure of sluice gates will help people living in Ubon Ratchathani and those along the Moon river to have sufficient water for consumption during the next summer season. (TNA)
