Pakistani University Celebrates Nowruz

Islamabad, March 18, IRNA – Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan came together to jointly celebrate Nowruz in Pakistan’s Quaid-e-Azam university here on Tuesday. The program was jointly organized by Iranˈs Cultural Consulate and Quaid-e-Azam University’s (QAU) department of history. The beautiful embroidered dresses, delicious traditional cookies, dry fruits, sweets, desserts and rhythmic music from Iran and Afghanistan were a treat for the students and faculty members of the QAU. The Nowruz celebrations were inaugurated by Deputy Ambassador of Afghanistan Musa Arifi. Iranian Cultural Counselor Taqi Sadiqi and vice Chancellor Quaid-e-Azam University Aitzaz Ahmad were also present in the ceremony. Sadiqi on the occasion said that Nowruz is the common festival of Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan. He said every year the regional countries come together to celebrate Nowruz, adding that this year heads of Iran, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Afghanistan will gather in Kabul to celebrate the Nowruz festival. Speaking to IRNA, he said on March 20 Nowruz will be celebrated at National University of Modern Languages (NUML) Islamabad and next month it would be celebrated in northern Gilgit Baltistan province. Vice Chancellor Quaid-e-Azam University Aitzaz Ahmad said that the university has been organizing the occasion for past six years. He said that Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan share same culture, religion and history. She added that the QAU and Iranˈs Cultural Consulate have signed an MoU for enhancing corporation and a Rumi Chair has been set up at the Quaid-e-Azam University in this regard./end
