Papua Youth Leaders Set To Hold KNPI Congress As Scheduled

Manokwari, Nov 17 (Antara) - West Papua youth leaders said the 14th national congress of the Indonesian National Youth Committee (KNPI) scheduled to be held in Jayapura, Papua, next month must not be cancelled. "Papua is part of Indonesia , therefore, Papua has the right to host the congress," West Papua youth leader Yulpinus Mandacan said here on Monday. Financial problem gave rise to doubt that the congress could be held in Jayapura. KNPI asked the provincial administration to provide Rp40 billion for the congress, but Jayapura said it could set aside only Rp10 billion for the congress. Jayapura had said if KNPI wanted more than Rp10 billion it could not host the congress . Yulpinus said the provincial administration considered the request unreasonable. Based on the national leaders` meeting of KNPO in Bandung in June, Papua is to host the next national congress of KNPI. Yulpinus said the KNPI central executive board must keep its commitment to hold the congress in Papua. He asked KNPI central executive board to make do with the fund the provincial administration could provide that the congress could be held in jayapura as scheduled.
