Partial solar eclipse to be observed in Thailand

NAHON RATCHASIMA, THAILAND, March 7 (TNA) - People are welcome to observe a solar eclipse at the Nakhon Ratchasima Regional Observatory for the Public in the Thai Northeast on March 9, 2016. Boonyarit Chunhakij, an information technology (IT) official of the observatory, under the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT), told journalists on Monday that his observatory has prepared eclipse glasses to serve the public, free of charges, during the partial solar eclipse, predicted to happen during 6-9am (local time) on March 9. "If the sky is clear on that morning, people in all other areas in Nakhon Ratchasima, apart from his observatory, which is situated in the compound of Suranaree University of Technology in Muang District, will be able to observe the solar eclipse from 6:41-8:34am though it would be a partial solar eclipse, where only 38 per cent of the sun would be covered", said the official. Booyarit advised that people observe the solar eclipse with proper equipment only and never watch the solar eclipse with their naked eyes or through normal sunglasses, as all types of camera or mobile phone camera lens, or unfiltered telescopes could cause permanent blindness by damaging the cells in their eyes' nerves. According to the official, people can also view the solar eclipse from a live broadcast from Indonesia at the official www.narit.or.th website during the suggested period. (TNA)
