Partial solar eclipse clearly seen by people in Thai South

SOUTHERN THAILAND, March 9 (TNA) - People in the Thai South could clearly observe a partial solar eclipse, over 60 per cent of the Sun, on Wednesday morning, thanks to the fine weather. In Yala Province in the Thai Far South, a large group of people gathered at the provincial agricultural research and development station on the Hua Lan Mount, the highest point in the province, where special telescopes, supported by the Science Centre for Education, were seated for the public to observe the solar eclipse, which started at around 6:28am from the eastern corner of the Sun downward. In nearby Narathiwat Province, people gathered to observe the partial solar eclipse at several spots, especially along local beaches and high buildings in Su-ngai Golok, Tak Bai and Muang Districts, while a group of Thai-Muslims also took part in mass prayers during the eclipse in remembrance of the Allah. In adjacent Songkhla Province, local people and those from nearby provinces gathered at the Simila Beach to closely observe the partial solar eclipse through special telescopes, supported by Songkhla Rajabhat University, and eclipse glasses. Similar public gatherings to observe the partial solar eclipse were seen in Nakhon Si Thammarat and Phuket Provinces, including over 300 students who appeared to be happy to clearly view the rare natural phenomenon.
