Pattani hit by multiple violence

PATTANI, April 20 (TNA) - An unknown number of insurgents on Friday night burned car tyres, surveillance cameras and public telephone booths in four districts of the violence-plagued Pattani province, police said. The four districts where the latest troublesome took place were Muang, Yaring, Nong Chik and Yarang, they said. In Muang district, the insurgents burned tyres and fell trees obstructing a highway linking between Pattani and Narathiwat provinces. They also torched surveillance cameras and public telephone booths as well as fibre-optic cables, which affected an Advanced Info Service (AIS) cell phone signal in the area, police said. The insurgents caused troubles in three areas in Yaring district. They included tyre burning on a highway and stealing of three closed circuit televisions. Police said insurgents also burned tyres on a different spot of a highway in Nong Chik district. Also, fire erupted and damaged the house of a village chief while police were investigating whether it was caused by arson or by accident. In Yarang district, car tyres were set alight on three spots on a highway connecting between Yala and Pattani provinces, police said. No casualties were reported during the incidents. (TNA)
