People asked not to release lanterns near electric wires, high voltage stations

BANGKOK, November 3 (TNA) - The state-run Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) asks people and international tourists nationwide not to release lanterns in the vicinity of electric cables and high voltage stations for the sake of public safety and undisrupted power services in all areas during the Loy Krathong Festival 2017, which falls on November 3. EGAT Deputy Governor Adul Pitakchartiwong told journalists on November 2 that the EGAT statement is aimed to prevent past incidents in which there were widely power blackout in some areas where lanterns, released by people during their Loy Krathong celebrations, stuck at roadside electric cables and high voltage stations. Besides, electric cables stuck by lanterns may also cause fires and damages to individual and public property in specific areas, affecting the national economy to some extent. The EGAT deputy governor also asked people to help watch out such the hazardous incidents and report to the EGAT information service center at its hotline, 1416, if they come across any suspicious or perilous act.
