People invited to donate blood during Thailand's Songkran Festival

BANGKOK, April 9 (TNA) - The National Blood Center, under the Thai Red Cross Society, has invited people to donate their blood as a precautious stock during this year's Songkran Festival when a large number of celebrants travel across the country. The Thai Red Cross National Blood Center has announced that it is launching a special campaign on drawing in more blood donations from people of all walks of life to its bank during April 9-16 when a large number of Thai and foreign tourists travel to their destinations across the country for a long-holiday family reunion and festivity celebrations. Thai Red Cross Society Secretary-General Phan Wannamethee is scheduled to preside over a ceremony to officially launch the special campaign at the National Blood Center on Henri Dunant Road in Bangkok on April 10, at 1:30pm, during which a caravan of blood donation buses will also be released. Under the special campaign, people are invited to wear traditional Thai costumes to donate their blood to the blood bank of the Thai Red Cross National Blood Center as a merit making activity during the Songkran or the Traditional Thai New Year Festival 2018. Blood donors during the one-week special campaign will each receive a T-shirt with the “BLOOD DONATION” printed word from the Thai Red Cross National Blood Center as a souvenir and are all welcome to pour scented water to the Lord Buddha image as an auspicious blessing for them and their families as part of their Traditional Thai New Year celebrations. Prior to the annual Songkran Festival, hospitals across Thailand normally ask for more blood from the Thai Red Cross National Blood Center as their preparatory stocks to be sufficiently used in case of any emergency.
