People Living Near Mt Slamet Should Remain Cautious

Purwokerto, C Java, Nov 3 (Antara) - People living in a zone within a four-kilometer radius of Mount Slamet in Central Java Province are not allowed to have activities for their own safety because of the volcano`s alert status, a volcanologist warned. The mountain`s volcanic activities remain unstable in which tremors were felt in the districts of Banyumas, Purbalingga, Pemalang, Tegal, and Brebes, Head of the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry`s Geology Agency Surono said here Monday. This unstable condition was recorded by the Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation Center (PVMBG) of Mount Slamet Monitoring Post in Gambuhan Village, Pulosari Subdistrict, Pemalang District, Central Java, he said. On March 10, 2014, the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry`s Geology Agency increased Mount Slamet`s status from "normal active" (Level 1) to alert status Level 2 as a result of the volcano`s rising volcanic activities.
