People mourn the death of Thailand's Supreme Patriarch

BANGKOK, October 25 (TNA) - People nationwide mourn the death of Thailand's Supreme Patriarch and national flags are lowered at half-mast for three days, starting from October 25. According to a latest statement of the Bureau of the Royal Household issued on Friday morning, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej has instructed that the mourning period of palace officials for His Holiness Phra Yannasangwon, the late Supreme Patriarch, who passed away on Thursday night, be extended to 30 days. However, the mourning period of government and state officials, as well as the general public for His Holiness is maintained at 15 days, starting from October 25. The body of the revered Supreme Patriarch has been delivered to the Bowonniwet Wihan Temple in Bangkok, his official residence. Crowds of Buddhists have arrived at the temple to mourn the late Supreme Patriarch and make merits. The 19th Supreme Patriarch of Thailand's Rattanakosin Era passed away peacefully from blood infection at the age of 100. The Supreme Patriarch's health condition had been deteriorating after he underwent an intestinal surgery for bacterial infection on October 14, 2013. (TNA)
