People Must Check Track Records Of Presidential Candidates

Tangerang, Banten, Nov 13 (Antara) - People should check the track record of the presidential candidate they want to see stand for election next year to avoid being deceived, a national figure said here on Wednesday. "I call on people to judge a presidential candidate based on what he/she has done and not on his/her mission and vision," former Constitutional Court Chief Justice Mahfud MD said at a public discussion. He noted that if people chose candidates based on their track record, they would not be deceived because a candidate`s mission and vision is created by his/her campaign team and, therefore, does not directly represent the candidate`s goals. By doing make better judgments, he said, people could become more selective and would know more about the person hoping to lead them. "People must look at the track record of the candidate they want to choose," he noted. Mahfud, who is being projected as a potential presidential candidate, also announced that he hopes to make Indonesia better by improving law enforcement. He stated that Indonesia, so far, has failed to achieve its goal of realizing the welfare of its people because laws are not enforced. "Indonesia is facing a law enforcement problem, and so, in the future, this must be improved," he added.
