People at risk of Vitamin D deficiency

BANGKOK, January 15 (TNA) - Thailand's Institute of Nutrition of Mahidol University (INMU) reports that a number of people are facing Vitamin D deficiency and are, thus, at risk of osteoporosis by avoiding sunlight. INMU Director-General Dr. Ratchanee Kongkachuichai told journalists on January 15 that a large number of Thais have been diagnosed with Vitamin D deficiency, as researches have shown that most Thais in their working ages avoid sunlight, which is a natural Vitamin D generator by applying sunscreen and avoid exposing to sunlight. Dr. Ratchanee pointed out that a number of Thai people do not consumer enough nuts and livers, causing them to be at risk of having higher tendency of osteoporosis. The INMU chief cautioned that taking Vitamin D supplements could even cause more harm than good if a person does not face Vitamin D deficiency, while Vitamins A, D, E and K are fats solubles. (TNA)
