People in Thai South warned of new flash floods

BANGKOK, January 6 (TNA) - Thailand's Meteorological Department has warned people in eight inundation-hit southern provinces to beware of and well-prepared for, probably, new flash floods and landslides in the coming days, triggered by more heavy downpours. According to the new warning issued by the Meteorological Department, the eight southern provinces include Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Yala, Pattani, Satun and Narathiwat. The Ministry of Interior's Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, meanwhile, urged people in the affected provinces in the Thai South to follow weather updates and unusual weather conditions so that they can timely evacuate to safe places, particularly those living along foothills and low lying areas; while trawlers are also advised to stay ashore during the period, from January 5-10.
