People Urged Not To Participate On Convoys: Priyatno

Jakarta, July 9 (Antara) - Jakarta Police chief Insp. Gen. Dwi Priyatno called on people not to participate on convoys around the city after quick count, as public order and safety could be disturbed. "We have instructed all personnel to prevent the possibility of a convoy by supporters of the two candidates (Prabowo-Hatta and Jokowi-JK)," Insp. Gen. Dwi Priyatno remarked when observing polling stations (TPS) in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, on Wednesday. According to him, the convoy or euphoria of each supporter can cause conflicts, such as social envy of the rival candidate`s supporters. "The result has been reported through a quick count. It is not the official result from the General Elections Commission (KPU)," he stated. Jakarta police chief has expressed that by Wednesday afternoon there had been no report of any violations in presidential elections. The police had deployed about 22,000 personnel, assisted by 10,000 personnel of Indonesian Military (TNI), for securing the area on election day. "Members of Linmas have also helped us, so the total count of all security personnel is about 90,000," he affirmed. Jakarta Police Chief Pangdam Jaya, Maj. Gen. Mulyono, and North Jakarta Police Chief M. Iqbal were present at around 12:00 p.m. local time. They held a conversation with members of a Polling Station Working Committee (KPPS) and voters. Earlier in the same location, around 08.00 p.m. local time, Deputy National Police Chief Comr. Gen. Badrodin Haiti had also monitored the voting process for about 15 minutes. According to Indonesia`s KPU, a total of 190,307,134 eligible voters have been registered for the presidential election on Wednesday, July 9, 2014, including 2,038,711 overseas voters, with 486,866 polling stations across the archipelago.
