People warned to be aware of danger from flooding

BANGKOK, July 30 (TNA) - The Ministry of Public Health warned people in flood-stricken areas to prevent themselves from drowning and other water-borne diseases. Dr Sopon Mekthon, permanent secretary for Public Health said that the ministry is now worried about drowning deaths that could happen while local residents go fishing and swimming in floodwater. Moreover, he warned that they should also pay attention to food safety and sanitation in order to avoid getting sick from water-borne illnesses. As for the disease control, the Ministry has launched an intensive screening campaign against influenza at temporary shelters. Health officials distribute face masks to flood victims and provided vaccination for risk groups. Meanwhile, he added that two hospitals Sakhon Nakhon Hospital and Phangkhon Hospital have been affected by flood so far but they are still opened to the public. (TNA)
