Perseid meteor shower to peak on Wednesday

CHIANG MAI, August 12 (TNA) - National Astronomy Institute of Thailand (NARIT) has invited people to observe Perseid meteor shower, which will peak on the night of August 12, also the National Mother’s Day. Head of NARIT’s Astronomy Information Department Suparerk Karuehanon said on Tuesday the annual Perseid meteor shower usually occurs during 17 July – 24 August. This year’s meteor shower will reach its peak after midnight on August 12, he added. Mr Suparerk said the Perseids will rain down about 80-100 meteors per hour in every Thai region and will be best seen on the clear northeastern sky. The Perseids are the second brightest meteor shower after the Leonids which take place every year in November. (TNA)
