Phuket floods receding

PHUKET, June 10 (TNA) - A heavy inundation in Thailand's southern resort Phuket province has been receding to normal, amid the Meteorological Department's warnings that all Thai regions will continue facing heavy downpours with strong wind and high waves this week. Floodwater on several roads around Phuket's Pa Tong Beach, with some areas submerged nearly one metre, has been easing to normal in most flooded areas. Flooding, as high as 20-30 centimetres, in Phuket has, however, remained in some areas where they are now passable by vehicles, amid rain clouds and scattered downpours. The Meteorological Department has, meanwhile, continued issuing its warnings, saying that the Thai North and Northeast should be facing heave downpours with strong wind from June 11-14, during which there should also be increased downpours, with heavy ones in some areas, in all other parts of Thailand and high waves of 2-3 metres off both the country's Andaman and Gulf of Thailand coasts. Besides, the weather agency warned local people and fishermen to take more precaution from impacts of the heavy downpurs and high waves, while small trawlers have been advised to stay on shores during the period.
