Phuket hosts 103rd Malaysia-Thailand regional border talks

PHUKET, THAILAND, August 26 (TNA) - The 103rd Malaysia-Thailand Regional Border Committee (RBC) Meeting is held in resort Phuket Province in the Thai South from August 24-26. The 103rd Malaysia-Thailand RBC Meeting, co-chaired by Malaysia's Commander of Field Army Lieutenant General Dato Sri Zulkifli Bin Haji Kasem and Thailand's Commanding General of the 4th Army Area Command Lieutenant General Prakarn Cholayuth, followed the 102nd one hosted by Malaysia in the Penang State. Lieutenant General Prakarn said on Wednesday that the Malaysia-Thailand RBC was established by the Malaysian and the Thai governments under their agreement on border cooperation signed on March 13, 1965. Lieutenant General Prakarn noted that the latest Malaysia-Thailand RBC meeting, the 103rd of its kind, reflects sound and long-standing ties and coopeation between both neighbouring countries. According to the Thai commander, the success of the Malaysia-Thailand RBC, in terms of promoting bilateral understanding, friendship and cooperation, has helped not only eliminate sensitive issues between both neighbouring countries, but also open new visions in solving security issues along the common border, paving the way for expanding bilateral cooperation on economic and social development plans. Malaysia will take turn to host the 104th Malaysia-Thailand RBC Meeting next year. (TNA)
