Phuket jolted by Indonesia’s quake

PHUKET, July 17 (TNA) - Thailand’s southern Phuket Province was affected by a 5.3-magnitude earthquake in Indonesia on Wednesday morning, but there were initially no reports of casualties or damage. According to Phuket's provincial disaster prevention and mitigation office, the moderate quake occured at 6:41am (Thailand time), with its epicenter located in the sea off northern Sumatra Island, about 260 kilometer away from Phuket. The agency said although the tremor was felt by people in Phuket, particularly those in high-rise building, the overall situation in the southern Andaman Thai resort province and adjacent areas have remained normal.
