Phuket tourism to keep growing in 2014

PHUKET, THAILAND, December 13 (TNA) - The Phuket Tourist Association says tourism in the southern resort Thai province has not been affected by ongoing political unrest in Bangkok and it is expected to remain flourishing next year. Assessing the tourism business in Phuket and other Andaman coastal areas for 2014, Phuket Tourist Association Vice President for Marketing Bhuritt Maswongsa told journalists that the local tourism market remains active even though the ongoing political protests in Bangkok have lowered the number of international tourist arrivals in the southern Andaman resort areas by 20-30 per cent. Bhuritt foresaw that tourism in Phuket in 2014 alone should keep growing although the number of European tourists might slightly decline due to some concerns over the political situation in Thailand. The Phuket Tourist Association's vice president also predicted that Phuket should welcome more visitors from Asia, Russia and South Africa next year and should remain a major Thai tourist destination for international travelers.(TNA)
