Plane debris found off southern Thailand coast, believed belonged to foreign airline

NAKHON SI THAMMARAT, Jan 24 (TNA) -- Army officials have said they initially believed that the piece of plane debris found off the coast in the southern province of Nakhon Si Thammarat on Saturday belonged to a foreign airline. Villagers who have seen the plane debris which was white fibreboard with the width and length of approximately 3 metres and weight more than 100 kilogrammes with numbers appeared on it at several spots may belonged to the ill-fated MH370, the Malaysian jetliner that disappeared in March 2014 with 237 people onboard. The plane debris is now lying in front of a house in Pak Phanang district in Nakhon Si Thammarat province. The plane debris was found by two local fishermen in the early morning of Saturday while they were preparing to start fishing. The debris was between 30-50 metres away from the coastline. The two fishermen then informed their village headman and police who rushed to the scene to see what was the material. Aviation officials said they suspected that the debris was a front part of aircraft while villagers believed it could be a debris of MH370 which had disappeared almost two years ago. Pak Phanang district officer has already coordinated with the Fourth Army Region headquarters in the province and airline experts to help in inspection in details. Details of the inspection should be known within the next few days. (TNA)
