PM asks Thais staying in Turkey to take extra care

BANGKOK, September 10 (TNA) - In response to an ongoing bloody protest in Turkey, Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha has asked Thais staying in the southern European nation to be cautious for the sake of their safety. The prime minister told journalists on Thursday that he has already ordered the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs to offer protection to Thai nationals staying in Turkey, where tension has increased after the Turkish government launched a major military operation against Kurdistan Workers’ Party militants who, in turn, counter-attacked against the government forces. According to the Thai Embassy in Ankara, there have been no reports of casualties among Thai nationals in Turkey so far. The Thai Embassy reported, however, that the attacks were reported in Alanya City, where many Thais are staying, suggesting that the Thai people there take extra care for their safety and keep themselves away from demonstration sites. Meanwhile, the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bangkok announced that the current bloody violence in Turkey was stemmed from political problems in that country, warning Thai people there to try to avoid demonstration places and immediately contact the Thai Embassy in Ankara should they need any assistance.(TNA)
