PM assures Thailand would cooperate with UN on disaster reduction

SENDAI, Japan, March 15 (TNA) - Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has assured United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon that Thailand would fully cooperate with the UN in reducing risks resulted from natural disasters, according to a government spokesman. Spokesman Yongyuth Mayalarp told a press conference that General Prayut held talks with Ban on the sidelines of the 3rd UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction on Saturday. The conference is being in the Japanese city of Sendai from March 14-18. General Prayut, according to the spokesman, told Ban that Thailand would cooperate with the UN in sending signal to encourage countries to join forces in reducing risks from natural disasters. He stressed that contribution on natural disaster reduction has to be based on capability and potential of each country. The prime minister also briefed Ban on the development of Thailand’s politics in which the latter is confident that the kingdom would succeed and achieve sustainable democracy while he also hopes that political development in Thailand would proceed in accordance to the framework laid out by the caretaker government. The UN chief also invited General Prayut to attend a UN summit to adopt the post 2015 development agenda and the annual UN General Assembly meeting this September, the spokesman added. General Prayut returned to Thailand late Saturday. (TNA)
