PM calls on nationwide collaboration to celebrate Thai King's birthday

BANGKOK, November 28 (TNA) - Prime Minister and Defence Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has called on nationwide collaboration, including an end in ongoing domestic political protests, to honour His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, as it is time to celebrate the beloved and revered Thai monarch's 86th birthday this year on December 5. Appearing on TV Pool on Thursday afternoon, Yingluck invited people nationwide to follow His Majesty the King's advice on "love and harmony" in the society in order to pay tribute to the beloved Thai monarch on the auspicious occasion. Yingluck urged part of anti-government protesters to also end their occupation of government offices, insisting, however, that her elected government will not use force against the demonstrators. Yingluck confirmed her government remains administering the country and handling law enforcements for full benefits of the public although peaceful means have been used to deal with the ongoing demonstrations and there were some impacts on government agencies from the demonstrators' occupation, namely a disruption in power and water supplies, which has already been addressed. The prime minister stressed that her government has plans to ensure sufficient public services and facilities, and that the government does not want to play any political game, which is believed to have negative impacts on the countrysocailly and economically, as well as confidence among foreign countries. The prime minister reiterated that her government is ready to listen to demands from protesters, acknowledging, nonetheless, that a demand made by the protesters on the setting up of a people’s council cannot be implemented under the Constitution.
