PM calls on Thais to start reconciliation now

BANGKOK, December 6 (TNA) – Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha has urged Thai people to use the auspicious occasion of His Majesty the King’s 87th birthday anniversary on December 5 to start reconciliation and to jointly move the country’s reform forward. Speaking in his weekly television address on Saturday, General Prayut compared Thailand to a ‘crouching tiger’ that is prepared to leap forward. He said the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) and the interim government are working together to urgently solve the country’s problem and economic crux so that it could move forward in future. The prime minister citied an example of an member country of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), which was once regarded as a prosperous country in the region but has encountered a sharp setback in the past three decades due to lack of good governance, corruption and its government’s failure to carry out national reform. He said the situation in Thailand now is not as critical as that ASEAN country but the kingdom needs to address its problems in hands as soon as possible, especially the corruption issues. As national reform is underway in Thailand, General Prayuth called on Thai people to overcome their conflict and support the government in carrying out the reform to prevent the country to repeat those mistakes and turn into a failed state. “Everybody needs to share a vision of how the country should advance in future and how we could avoid committing those mistakes,” He said.
