PM discusses updates, solution to Thai far South with security agencies

BANGKOK, April 24 (TNA) - Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra called a meeting with security agencies concerned in Bangkok on Wednesday to discuss the updated situation and solutions to the violence-plagued Thai far South. Security authorities who attended the meeting, held before the next round of peace talks between the Thai government, through the National Security Council (NSC), and representatives of insurgent groups, namely the Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN) insurgency movement, in Malaysia on April 29 include Army Chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha, National Police Chief Police General Adul Saengsingkaew, NSC Secretary-General Lieutenant General Paradorn Pattanatabutr and representatives of the Royal Thai Armed Forces and the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center (SBPAC). After the meeting, the NSC chief told journalists that the prime minister ordered the security authorities to adhere to peaceful solutions, while the authorities affirmed that the situation in the troubled Thai deep remains under control. Regarding the deployment of additional security officers along the Thai-Malaysia border, the NSC chief said that the move is aimed at preventing people holding two citizenships from voting in Malaysia's new general election on May 5.
