PM happy with UN’s clear stance on Thailand

BANGKOK, June 22 (TNA) - Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha says he is happy with a clear stance of the United Nations on Thailand, following his phone talks with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon earlier this week. The prime minister's remarks at Bangkok's Government House on June 21 were in response to an earlier report from the spokesman of the UN secretary-general, reaffirming the UN chief’s readiness to support Thailand during the currently-critical transition toward democracy. The prime minister acknowledged that he phoned the UN chief on June 20 to discuss the matter and the clear stance of the UN secretary-general is good. As the red-shirt United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) has asked the United Nations to observe the upcoming public referendum on Thailand's new Constitution draft, set on August 7, the prime minister stressed if the request was filed, his officials would discuss and explain the issue with the UN. The Thai premier insisted that his government has solved one problem after another and the best solution is to tell those who violate laws to stop their actions. (TNA)
