PM insists on democratic government in Thailand

BANGKOK, June 5 (TNA) - Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has insisted on the democratic government in Thailand, with the freedom of the press, and expressed her confidence in democratic stability in the country. During her tea party with 28 representatives of foreign newspapers, held at Bangkok's Government House on Tuesday, Yingluck promised to promote true democracy in the country and the freedom of the press. Suranand Vejjajiva, Secretary-General to the Prime Minister, told reporters on Wednesday that the prime minister informed the foreign representatives of economic and infrastructure development in Thailand, which is connecting with other countries in the region. The representatives then expressed their confidence in Thai politics and promised to distribute reports on Thailand in favor of the elected prime minister. According to the prime minister's secretary-general, Premier Yingluck told the foreign representatives that Thailand is under constitutional monarchy and the government is duty-bound to protect the royal institution. The representatives came to Thailand to attend the World Newspaper Congress, the World Editors Forum and the World Advertising Forum in Bangkok this week. (TNA)
