PM Medvedev suggests Russian-Thai free trade zone

BANGKOK, April 8. /TASS/. Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev suggested Russia and Thailand establish a free trade zone, Medvedev, said on Wednesday during his official visit to Thailand. "I suggested to my Thai counterpart today that we can think of setting up the free trade zone based on principles we used for a similar nearly established area with Vietnam," Medvedev said. This will be a good opportunity for work, he added. "Everything depends on Thailand," the prime minister said responding to a question whether the free trade zone agreement with Thailand is the next big step in bilateral relations. "Certainly it will take some time. I would like to reiterate we are ready to consider this opportunity if you are interested in it," Medvedev said. "There is another interesting opportunity also. We are developing the Russian Far East. As you know territories are vast there, the population is not large, and we established the so-called "advance development territories," Medvedev said. "Such territories are essentially the zones with special taxation and simplified land transfer. This may also be interesting for Thai partners," the prime minister added. Read more
