PM Najib To Conduct Working Visit To Indonesia

KUALA LUMPUR, April 20 (Bernama) -- Malaysian Prime minister Najib Razak will conduct a two-day working visit to Indonesia from Thursday April 23 to attend the 60th anniversary celebrations of the Asia-Africa Conference and 10th anniversary of the New Strategic Asian-African Partnership in Bandung. According to a Foreign Ministry statement on Sunday, the two-day visit would provide Najib the opportunity to exchange views on bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest with leaders from Asian and African countries. "The visit symbolises Malaysia's continued support and commitment in strengthening cooperation with other developing countries, especially in Asia and Africa with the sole purpose of promoting world peace and prosperity through South-South cooperation," said the statement. During the visit, the prime minister would be accompanied by his wife Rosmah Mansor, Communications and Multimedia minister, Ahmad Shabery Cheek and Foreign minister, Anifah Aman. The anniversary celebrations of the Asia-Africa Conference and the New Asian-Africa Strategic Partnership would bring together heads of state from 109 countries in Asia and Africa as well as representatives and observers from 25 international organisations. The celebrations would begin with the Asian-African Ministers Meeting on April 20 and 21, followed by the Asian-African Summit themed 'Strengthening South-South Cooperation to Promote World Peace and Prosperity April 22 and 23 in Jakarta. Anifah and Ahmad Shabery would attend the Asian-African Summit. Three documents were expected to be announced at the end of the conference, namely the Bandung Message 2015, Declaration to reactivate the New Asia-Africa of Strategic Partnership and the Palestine Declaration. The first Asia-Africa Conference was co-organised by five countries namely India, Indonesia, Myanmar, Pakistan and Sri Lanka in Bandung, Indonesia in 1955. This conference symbolises the sharing of aspirations and solidarity among newly independent Asian and African countries. --BERNAMA
