PM Najib Proud Of Malaysians Who Flew Jalur Gemilang For Sporting Glory Over Merdeka Weekend

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 2 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Najib Razak said Monday he is proud of the Malaysians who flew the national flag 'Jalur Gemilang' for sporting glory over the Merdeka weekend (left). "There's hardly a better way to demonstrate a culture of excellence!" he said in his latest Facebook entry. Najib also congratulated squash queen Nicol David for her ninth Hong Kong Open win; kickboxing's Junior World Champion Santhia Subramaniam and the under-16 Harimau Muda team's lifting of the Frenz Asia Champions Trophy by beating PVF Vietnam on Sunday. "Congratulations to Nicol David, the indisputable number one in squash, on your ninth Hong Kong Open win. "Well done also to 16-year-old Santhia Subramaniam, Junior World Champion in kickboxing! The entire Malaysian kickboxing team did a superb job in London. "Congratulations to the under-16 Harimau Muda football team on lifting the Frenz Asia Champions Trophy. Let this win motivate you to do better in the coming tournaments," he said. Najib said he also hoped that Malaysians would keep rooting for national shuttler Lee Chong Wei and all other athletes who were doing their best for Malaysia. "Lee Chong Wei came very close to winning the Badminton World Championships. I know he wanted this win very badly for us all, but sadly it was not to be," he said. In the world championships, held in Copenhagen, Denmark, Chong Wei lost 19-21, 19-21 to second-choice player Chen Long of China in the men's singles final. (photoBERNAMA) --BERNAMA
