PM Najib Receives Telephone Call From Mark Rutte On MH17

PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), July 15 (Bernama) -- Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak on Tuesday received a telephone call from Netherlands Prime Minister Mark Rutte with the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 taking the centre stage of their conversation. Rutte called at 5.15 pm at Najib's office here and they discussed on the possible legal avenues that both countries intend to proceed in bringing the perpetrators to justice in their 15-minute conversation. On July 17 last year, MH17 was en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur when it was shot down over Ukraine, killing all 298 passengers and crew on board, including 43 Malaysians. Malaysia's Foreign Ministry in a statement earlier on Tuesday said five countries undertaking the independent criminal investigation into the downing of MH17 have asked the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to establish an international criminal tribunal to try those responsible for the tragedy. The statement said, Australia, Belgium, Malaysia, the Netherlands and Ukraine called upon members of the UNSC to support this proposal to ensure that those responsible are held to account and to deter those who would threaten civil aviation. Malaysia held a memorial to mark the first anniversary of the tragedy at the Bunga Raya Complex, Kuala Lumpur International Airport on July 11. (photoBERNAMA) --BERNAMA
