BANGKOK, May 12 (TNA) - Prime Minsiter Yingluck Shinawatra said Sunday the government is committed to improve quality of lives of Thai farmers and help them improve their income level. In her speech given on the National Agriculture Day, which was broadcast on televisions, Yingluck also sent her best wish to all 24 million Thai farmers, who she said have played important role in the country’s economic development. Yingluck said her government has initiated several projects to assist Thai farmers, including the rice and cassava pledging schemes, the debt moratorium scheme for small-scale and low-income farmers and the credit card for farmers programme. According to the Thai premier, the government has also set policy guidelines to strengthen national food security and increase the country’s food production in the long run. She said the government is also implementing agricultural zoning to optimize crop production and promoting organic agriculture, which offers Thai farmers a wide range of economic opportunities.
