PM visits Thai North

CHIANG RAI, THAILAND, November 28 (TNA) - Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha is visiting Chiang Rai Province in the Thai North on Monday to follow up the implementation of his government’s policy and meet local people. Assistant Government Spokesman Colonel Athisit Chainuwat told journalists that the highlight of the prime minister's trip to Chiang Rai is his opening of a "Zero Waste Village" learning center in Baan Pong Sri Nakhon community in Pa Daet District. The assistant spokesman stated that waste management has been included on the national agenda and the “Zero Waste Village” Project has won a national award this year. The assistant spokesman explained that Baan Pong Sri Nakhon community has followed the government’s guideline in waste management and garbage recycling, under which garbage is used to make fertilizers and is recycled into bags for selling, creating income for local people. Besides, the prime minister is scheduled to be briefed on Chiang Rai: the City of Herb Project, under which herbal products for health have been developed to create income for local people. According to the assistant spokesman, the herbal garden at Chiang Rai's Mae Fah Luang University on a 6.8 acre plot of land has been opened to be a leaning center for development of medicinal plants and a factory has been built to manufacture herbal medicines and products, as the development of herbal products and remedies is in accordance with the Thai government's policy on driving the domestic economy through innovations. The prime minister is also scheduled to meet local people and chair the Joint Public-Private Sector Committee of the upper northern provinces to discuss ways to drive forward the regional Thai economy, before flying back to Bangkok later in the day.
