PM wants peace to be restored in Thai far South by end of 2014

BANGKOK, September 29 (TNA) - Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-o-cha, who will remain in the military service as Thai Army Chief on his last day on September 30, says he would like peace to be restored in the violence-plagued Thai far South by the end of this year to prepare Thailand, along with other factors, for the formation of the ASEAN Community (AC) by the end of 2015. When attending a farewell ceremony in his honor at the Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy in Bangkok's adjacent Nakhon Nayok Province, in which 262 generals participated, General Prayuth called for those remaining in the military service to restore peace in the Thai deep South within this year. General Prayuth also said he is proud of his 38-year military service, which has had honor, dignity and challenges, urging all remaining armed forces personnel to be strong and continue working for the public and national interests. The retiring Thai army chief affirmed that he has always worked for the nation, religions and His Majesty the King without any personal interest. The prime minister, who is also chief of the army-led National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), told his junior officers to also proceed with the development of human resources and weaponry of the Royal Thai Army to strengthen its security operations in order to cope with old threats against national sovereignty and new threats, namely competition in the ASEAN Community and ideological differences in the country. Meanwhile, National Police Chief Police General Adul Saengsingkaew, who will also retire on September 30, bade farewell to his 38-year police service at the Police Aviation Division on Ram Intra Road in the capital. During the ceremony, the retiring national police chief, who is now new social development and human security minister and an NCPO deputy chief, encouraged police officers reaminin in service to continue working for the public and national interests. The new social development and human security minister also pledged that he will speed up cracking down all kinds of human trafficking, solving problems of the poor and preparing for Thailand's aging society.
