PM:Peace talks with insurgent groups in Thai Far South are national agenda

BANGKOK, March 1 (TNA) - Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-cha says that peace talks with insurgent groups in the Thai Deep South are national agenda and will be carried on. The prime minister, who is also Chief of the army-led National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), told journalists that he has been reported on the results of a negotiation between representatives of the Thai government and those of the MARA Patani group in Malaysia on February 28 on a limited ceasefire in a "safety zone". “If the safety zone can be created, it will prove the potential of the people we are negotiating with. If it proves successful, we can continue further negotiations,” the prime minister noted. According to the Thai premier, the government has worked with the Chularatchamontri or the Muslim spiritual leader of Thailand in quelling violent unrest in the southernmost Thai region. The prime minister stressed that all people in the country are Thais and there is no conflict between Buddhist Thais and Muslim Thais, asking people not to believe in distorted and false information.
