PM:Thailand, China will jointly oversee farm produce

BANGKOK, September 3 (TNA) - Prime Minister and Defence Minister Yingluck Shinawatra says that Thailand and China have agreed to form a joint sub-committee to supervise their farm products. Yingluck told journalists of the agreement on Tuesday, after returning to Thailand from her visit to China from September 2-3 to attend the 10th China-ASEAN Expo in Nanning City. Yingluck acknowledged that China is also interested in buying natural rubber from Thailand and in processing natural rubber together with Thailand. According to the prime minister, the joint Thai-Sino sub-committee will work out guidelines for sustainable and comprehensive cooperation on farm products, including rice and natural rubber. The Thai premier said she has, therefore, assigned Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Niwatthamrong Bunsongphaisan to discuss details and the possibility of barter trade on farm products with China, as Thailand has a large amount of farm products while China possesses technologies for investment. Asked how much China will import natural rubber from Thailand, the prime minister noted that China demands millions of tons of natural rubber annually and further negotiations should result in a permanent mechanism. The Thai prime minister revealed that the Ministry of Commerce will coordinate the matter, while the Chinese government is ready to support Chinese operators in trade and investment with Thailand.
