PM:Thailand plans to cut GHG emissions by 20-25% within 2030

BANGKOK, December 1 (TNA) - Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha says that Thailand plans to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) memissions by 20-25 per cent within 2030. Delivering his speech at the 21st Conference of the Parties (COP21) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the 11th Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol, being held in Paris from November 30 to December 11, the Thai prime minister told world leaders of the plan. The Thai premier noted that Thailand would try to cut GHG emissions by the targeted 20-25 per cent within 2030 through less consumption of fossil energy and use more environmentally-friendly alternative energy, while also pushing for eliminating the haze problem. The Thai leader said that his participation in the ongoing world forums is to display Thailand’s determination to make the new climate change negotiations successful, suggesting that attempts to contain a rise in global temperatures within 1.5–2 degrees Celsius are a joint responsibility of all economies worldwide, in which potential of each country is to be taken into consideration. The Thai leader stressed that the most importance is sustainable development Thailand will pursue based on the Self-Sufficiency Economy advised by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Touching on Thailand's becoming the G77 Chair in 2016, the Thai prime minister announced that the Kingdom would put efforts to become a bridge between G77 members and non-members to attain the objective of UN Framework Convention on Climate Change for the future of the world. After completing the speech, the Thai leader traveled to the Place de la Republique in Paris and laid wreaths in remembrance to bloody attacks in the French capital on November 13. (TNA)
