Police Awaiting Macau's Response to Nab Jho Low

KUALA LUMPUR, July 10 (Bernama) -- Malaysian police are waiting for a response from their Macau counterparts to detain businessman Low Taek Jho, better known as Jho Low, who is on the wanted list over the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) probe. Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun said he was made to understand that the man had escaped to Macau from Hong Kong on a ferry. “Prior to this, we had deployed a team to Hong Kong to track down Jho Low after being tipped off by the authorities there. However, the fugitive had fled to Macau by sea when the team arrived (in Hong Kong). “Nevertheless, we have submitted an official request to Macau (authorities) with regards to this case. We have also applied for Red Notice to seek assistance from other countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, India, Myanmar, China and Hong Kong via Interpol, and Taiwan via diplomatic channels. “Now, we have to wait for a response from Macau in order for us to track down Jho Low,” he said here Tuesday. Last Thursday, police confirmed that Jho Low had escaped to Macau. On June 15, the Immmigration Department had cancelled the businessman’s passport at the request of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to facilitate investigations into the 1MDB scandal. -- BERNAMA
