Police bust 2,000 World Cup bookies, gamblers

BANGKOK, June 18 (TNA) – Deputy national police chief disclosed that so far, 250 wrongdoers have been prosecuted and about 2,000 persons including bookies and gamblers have been arrested nationwide. Pol Gen Chalermkiat Srivorakhan said about the football online gambling that football betting tends to increase from the last World Cup four years ago and gamblers are likely to place high-stakes bet in big matches. The police are closely monitoring online gambling and will order shutdown of the gabling websites once there is clear evidence. If those websites operate overseas, they will be blocked in Thailand He said that the police are gathering evidence to arrest operators of 100 online gambling websites, registered in Thailand. Meanwhile, the police summoned 10 net idols for their involvement in promotion of football online betting for questioning on June 20. (TNA)
